One of the main objectives of the British Galway Sheep Society is to promote the many qualities of the breed. As well as being bred pure for the replacements in a pedigree flock they do offer tremendous potential as cross breds in any farming enterprise. The Ewes make excellent mothers and the Rams crossed onto a continental Ewe produce a good conformation butchers lamb.
They thrive on any pasture, adapt readily to changing climate conditions and have few foot problems, making management very easy. Both Ewes and Rams are noted for their hardiness and longevity, and their long fine quality fleece. The fleece weighs between 3 and 3.5 kilos and are very popular with hand spinners.
